Recently I received an influx of delivery notifications for my cross border mailbox. I know I’ve ordered a lot of things over the past month but it was before I left on my annual California trip and now that I’m back I can’t for the life of me remember what I’ve bought.
I’ve been struggling to find time to make a run for the border to pick up my clearly must have items, hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to sneak away from the rest of my life to go clear out my mailbox before the staff start getting concerned for my well being.
Am I the only one who shops online and then immediately forgets what they ordered? Is this a problem that perhaps I should be seeking help for?
All I ever remember about my online shopping sprees is:
- It was on sale
- Shops send me pretty emails with loads of pictures and great offers
- When I fill my cart and don’t check out they give me a gentle nudge to finish before I can’t get my coveted items any longer
- When I forget again they keep offing more and more discounts and promo codes
- If I didn’t buy it I’d be losing money
A while back I had been reading the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and a friend of mine who often had to wait for me to finish getting ready when he arrived, decided one day to pick up my book and start reading.
The series is hilarious and I wasn’t surprised when he became completely hooked and started reading all of the books, he’d even ask to borrow them on occasion.
He was a couple of chapters into the original Confessions of a Shopaholic when he blurted out, “This book is about you.”
I stared at him from beneath my blanket (we had been reading together by the fire on a cold rainy Sunday), “Pardon?” I growled at him.
“This book is about you.” He repeated “Everything in it, everything she says and does, her rationalization, everything.”
“Whatever, is not.” I snorted.
Fast forward to today and I can maybe see the similarities a little bit now. Am I Rebecca Bloomwood 2.0?
I do have a closet that is stuffed to the max. Loaded with clothes, unworn, tags attached but such a bargain that I would have lost money if I didn’t buy them.
They all have a story too, the dress that I bought for my cousins wedding, and the back up dress that I bought just in case and it’s a good thing I did because when I showed up in the same dress as the mother of the groom, it was lucky I had the back up and was able to slip away unnoticed (mostly) to change into dress number 2.
The designer handbag that was just too good to be true. When I walked into the department store and saw it sitting alone on a top self, the light hitting it just right. It was marked down from $600 to $80 PLUS there was another 25% off if I used my store card. HELLO! Losing money if I didn’t snap it up!
Now if you’ll excuse me I have packages to pick up, I’m pretty sure my favorite border guards are on duty this afternoon. 🙂
